MCLA Dance Company Constitution

Article I                        Name and Structure

This organization shall be known as the M.C.L.A. Dance Company.  The Dance Company will function under an advisor, with additional student officers elected by the membership.  For position descriptions, please see Article IV.

 

Article II         Purpose

 

The purpose of the M.C.L.A. Dance Company is to:

-Enhance and nurture an interest in dance at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

-Teach and perform various genres of dance.

-Be an active part of the M.C.L.A. community.

 

Article III            Membership

M.C.L.A. Dance Company members must:

-Pay student activities fees to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

-Have an interest in the art of dance

-Be willing to be involved, whether a full-time, part-time, commuting, or non-traditional student.

-Be able to attend weekly rehearsals and Company meetings.

-Be willing to commit to at least one aspect of Dance Company (dancing, choreography, publicity, stage management, tech, sound, box office, etc.)

-Not be a member of the M.C.L.A. staff or faculty.

 

Article IV            Officers

Advisor:

Staff member of M.C.L.A. who is responsible for Dance Company and coordinating its semesterly performances.  The Advisor must be involved with weekly E-board meetings, must attend the first Company meeting each semester, and must be involved in the election of new officers.

Presidents:

One to two students (depending on need of company) who will serve as the Captain/s of the Dance Company, assuming leadership and responsibility for the Company.  The President/s will also run Company meetings and oversee the Publicity Committee.

Vice President:

Student who will serve in an auxiliary capacity to the President/s.  The Vice President will also oversee the Social Committee and jointly oversee the Costuming Committee with the Treasurer.

Secretary:

Student who will be responsible for maintaining Dance Company contact information and for handling all communications to or on behalf of the Dance Company.  The Secretary will also be the enforcer of attendance policies and will oversee the Community Service Committee.

Treasurer:

Student who will be responsible for creating and maintaining a system to track the Dance Company budget and expenditures.  The Treasurer will also serve as the liaison to the S.G.A. and jointly oversee the Costuming Committee with the Vice President.

  

Article V            Meeting Times

 Dance Company will hold weekly meetings for the entire Company membership to discuss business items and show dance works in progress.  The time of these meetings will be set at the first Company meeting of each semester.  The duration of each meeting typically will run shorter than two hours, however it is expected of each Company member to be available for the complete two hour meeting period if necessary.  Additionally, each choreographer will hold their own weekly rehearsals with their dancers, and the officers will also convene for weekly E-board meetings.
